Agatized Dinosaur Bone from the Morrison Formation
Agatized dinosaur bone, commonly called gembone, is fossil bone mineralized by silica while retaining portions of its original internal structure. When polished, the preserved bone cells and vascular channels create distinctive webbed, radiating, or honeycomb-like patterns. This specimen comes from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation of the western United States, one of North America’s best-known dinosaur-bearing rock units.
