Azurite Sun: Radial Formation from Northern Territory, Australia

Azurite Suns are rare, flattened azurite discs found at the Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia’s Northern Territory. They consist of numerous small azurite crystals arranged in radial and concentric patterns within a kaolinite-rich clay matrix. Research indicates that the discs formed through an unusual primary diagenetic mineralization process, rather than the secondary weathering process typical of most azurite deposits.
