Hubbard Basin petrified wood is a Middle Miocene fossil wood from Elko County, Nevada. Silica-rich groundwater mineralized the buried wood with chalcedony while preserving portions of its original grain and cellular structure. This specimen also fluoresces under ultraviolet light, revealing patterns and colors that are subdued or invisible under normal lighting.
