Moldavite: Natural Tektite Glass from the Czech Republic

Moldavite is a rare natural tektite glass formed approximately 14.8 million years ago during the Ries impact event in what is now southern Germany. Molten terrestrial material was ejected through the atmosphere and cooled as it traveled, creating the distinctive green glass found in the Czech Republic’s Moldavite strewn field. Its etched, sculptural surface and translucent olive-green color make each piece highly individual and widely collected.
